Sixth International Symbiosis Congress
August 9th, 2009
Angela, Calum and Adam joined colleagues from more than 30 countries at the ISS Congress.
Angela gave a presentation in the session on Conflict and Cooperation on the topic of conflict resolution in the aphid-Buchnera symbiosis.

Calum's research is in collaboration with colleagues of the the Anglo-French METNET consortium and concerns the transcript patterns of aphid bacteriocytes (the insect cells that contain the symbiotic bacteria). Calum co-presented the poster with Dr Sandy MacDonald (METNET) from the University of York, UK.

Adam presented a poster on the diversity of the gut microbiota in Drosophila melanogaster and the impact of removing the microorganisms on the fitness and nutritional status of the insects.
We thank the Cornell Graduate School and Department of Entomology Rawlins Fund for financial support for Calum and Adam.

The METNET consortium relaxes at Goudi's Sagrada Familia after the Aphid Genomics meeting in Barcelona in June 2009. Left to right: Stefano Collela, Hubert Charles, Peter Ashton, Angela, Sandy MacDonald, and behind Gavin Thomas and Augusto Vellozo.
