• How microorganisms affect the nutrition of their animal host
• Interactions between resident microorganisms and animal immune function

Insect nutrition

• How insects acquire and allocate major nutrients, including amino acids, carbohydrate and sterols
• Using genomic data to reconstruct and analyze insect metabolism
